Fire Protection Pipe Standards
Standards for fire protection pipes are governed by ASTM International, a standards organization that publishes technical requirements for a broad range of services and materials. Formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials, they develop and publish standards that have been widely agreed upon for various uses.

For fire protection pipes, there are three standards:

ASTM A53
The broadest standard for fire pipe, ASTM A53 pipes generally come in three thicknesses:

Standard (Schedule 40)
Extra strong (Schedule 80)
Double extra strong (Schedule 160)
When it comes to pipe thickness, the lower the Schedule number, the thinner the pipe. ASTM A53 requires that Schedule 40 be used as a minimum for sprinkler systems, although there are no restrictions against using the heavier pipes.

ASTM A135
This standard covers electric resistance welded pipe. This fabrication process allows lines to have thinner walls while reducing the potential for corrosion. These pipes are required to be at least Schedule 10.

ASTM A795
ASTM A795 refers to pipes that can be used in sprinkler systems. The walls of these pipes are generally between Schedule 10 and Schedule 40.

All three of these pipe types must be either painted red or coated in a red polymer epoxy. They can also come in either black steel or hot-dipped galvanized, which helps reduce corrosion.

Seamless steel pipe is manufactured by the round steel billet, through hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawn processes, no seam on the pipe body.
Welded steel pipe is manufactured by flat steel plate, with welding seam on the pipe body.

How is Seamless steel pipe made.
API 5L and ASTM Seamless steel pipe adopts steel ingot or solid tube as raw material through the perforated tube, then can be formed by hot rolled, cold rolled or cold drawn. Hot rolled seamless steel pipe is formed by billet forging, perforation, rolling, shaping and other processes. For Large diameter pipe, and thick walled seamless pipe usually made in this way. Cold drawn seamless pipe used cold-drawn forming technology. The material strength is relatively low, the appearance and internal control surface is smooth. Small diameter and thin wall seamless pipe usually made in this way. The seamless steel pipes are rolled by carbon structural steel, low alloy structure steel or alloy structure steel and stainless steel. Seamless steel pipes applied in different industries: Line pipe for pipelines, thermal services, mechanical industries, chemicals etc.

How is Welded steel pipe made
API 5L or ASTM welded steel pipe includes LSAW pipe, SSAW pipe, and ERW steel pipe. These pipes are made with steel strip or steel plate. The manufacturing processes first bending the steel plate, then welded into circular, square and other shapes. Welded steel pipe has the characteristics of high production efficiency, low cost and saving material. It has been widely applied to aviation, aerospace, energy, electronics, automobile, light industry and other industries. With strong corrosion resistance in the acidic environment.

About Service & Support

1.FBE
Single Layer FBE coating pipes are applied to transfer water,natural gas, etc. The working temperature is -30℃ to 100℃. They are isused all over the world.
External FBE pipes are easy operation, no no pollution themo-stability, and high mechanical strength on bending and impacting.
Internal FBE can reduce the secondary pollution of the transport medium, extend the steel pipeline’s service life.

3.2LPE/3LPE
Buried steel pipes with 2PE/3PE coating are used for the transmission of water, oil, gas and other media, the working temperature is 50℃-70℃, it has good performance of anti-corrosive, low water-absorption rate, high mechanical strength.The material is as follows 3PE:
1. Epoxy coating (FBE) – chemical resistance and cathodic disbondment resistance;
2. Adhesive – to ensure the affinity between the bottom layer and the surface layer;
3. Polyethylene (PE) – for mechanical protection and anti-corrosion.

4.3LPP
The same as 3LPE, the buried steel pipe with 3LPP coating is used for the transportation of water, oil, gas and other media. Unlike 3LPE, its third layer is polypropylene. And it has more advantages than 3LPE in the following aspects, and of course the price will be higher:
1. High applicable temperature: the working temperature of the coating can reach 110℃~150℃.
2. Long service life of 3PP at high temperature: DIN30678 says that the life is 30 years at 80°C, 15 years at 90°C, and 8 years at 100°C. (3PE when the temperature is higher than 80℃, the PE layer will soften)
3. Good peel strength and indentation hardness at high temperature
4. The impact resistance is suitable for a wide range of temperatures

5.Hot dipped Galvanized
Hot dipped galvanizing is the process of coating to protect steel from rusty corrosion.
The hot-dip galvanized pipe is to make the molten metal react with the iron matrix to produce an alloy layer, so that the matrix and the coating are combined. Hot-dip galvanizing is to pickle the steel pipe first. It is cleaned in the tank of ammonium chloride or zinc chloride aqueous solution or mixed aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride, and then sent to the hot dip coating tank. Hot dip galvanizing has the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, strong corrosion resistance, and long service life.

6.Painted
The main colors of spray paint are Black, Red, and Varnish and more. Customers can customize the color according to different use ranges, such as yellow for gas pipelines and red for fire pipelines.
Black Painted
There are three treatment methods for the surface of the fire pipe.
The first epoxy coating: Red (Ral3000), Reddish-brown (Ral 3009), Grey (Ral 7012);
Second spray paint: Black (Ral 9005), Red (Ral 3000), Reddish-Brown (Ral 3009), Grey (Ral 7012);
The third type of Hot Dipped Galvanizing, the thickness of the zinc layer is 50-55 microns/㎡.

7.Oiling
Oiling is designed to prevent rusting of steel products. Under the usual conditions of packaging, transportation, handling and storage, the supplier shall guarantee that the surface of the steel pipe will not rust within * months from the date of completion of manufacture. The thicker the oil film, the stronger the anti-rust ability, and the thickness is determined according to the anti-rust time.
Oil products, generally used mineral oil type anti-rust oil (solvent type), after a period of time, it will naturally become muddy and clean. The oil film can also be removed with an alkaline aqueous solution.

Hot Dipped Galvanizing is the process of coating to protect steel from rusty corrosion.

Hot-dip galvanizing is to pickle the steel pipe first. It is cleaned in the tank of ammonium chloride or zinc chloride aqueous solution or mixed aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride, and then sent to the hot dip coating tank. Hot dip galvanizing has the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, strong corrosion resistance, and long service life.

Pre-Galvanizing
The processing technology of pre-galvanized steel pipe differs from that of hot-dip galvanizing mainly in the raw materials used. The raw materials of pre-galvanized steel pipes are mainly galvanized steel coils. After the factory processes the galvanized coil into a steel pipe, it is no longer necessary to galvanize again, and it is only necessary to supplement zinc on the welded part. The advantage of pre-galvanizing is that the zinc layer is more uniform and the appearance is more beautiful. The pre-galvanizing process is favored by people because of its low plating cost, excellent protection properties and beautiful appearance, and is widely used in construction, machinery, solar energy and other fields.

The thickness of the zinc layer of hot-dip galvanizing is 100-500 g/㎡, and the thickness of the zinc layer of pre-galvanized steel pipe is 40-100 g/㎡.

Therefore, hot-dip galvanized steel pipe has better corrosion resistance than pre-galvanized steel pipe.
